Antel Waterbased
Epoxy Coating is a universal water based epoxy resin coating designed for
easy and safe application. Waterbased Epoxy Coating possesses most of the
properties of conventional epoxy resins with many additional advantages,
particularly its tolerance of damp application conditions. It is applied in
the same manner as ordinary emulsion paint and dries quickly to form a tough,
easily cleaned coating, providing a waterproof barrier. The coating is non
toxic, resistant to oil, and most mild chemicals. Subsequent over coating can
be carried out after the original surface has been thoroughly degreased and
cleaned. 2. USES The scope of
applications for Waterbased Epoxy Coating is extensive and it can be used
virtually anywhere that concrete or masonry requires protection or
waterproofing. Recommended areas
and types of use :- 1.
Wall coating in areas of food manufacture
and storage. 2.
Tank lining for protection against mild
chemicals. 3.
Waterproofing and decorative finish for all
brick, concrete, cement, masonry and asbestos surfaces. 4.
As a general weatherproofing and
waterproofing coating. 5.
For application to damp surfaces where
other paints cannot adhere. 6.
As a finish for swimming pools. 7.
As a membrane to prevent rising damp in
floors. 8.
As a sealing coat for asbestos containing
materials. Typical locations :- 1.
Swimming pools. 2.
Water tanks/sewage treatment plants. 3.
Abattoirs. 4.
Dairies/milking parlours, food factories,
breweries. 5.
Grain silos. 6.
Basement/damproof membrane. 7.
Chemical industry garages. 8.
Bunds and water plants. 3. PACKAGING A two part product
available in 1, 2.5 and 5 litres. Non-returnable containers. |
4. STORAGE Store in a cool, dry
and frost free area in original containers. Protect from freezing. Keep out
of the reach of children. A shelf life in excess of 12 months can be expected
for unopened containers kept in the above conditions. 5. DRYING & CURING At 20 degrees C and
with reasonable ventilation, the coating is touch dry in 6 hours and hard dry
in 12 hours. Maximum cure, hardness and chemical resistance is obtained
within 7 days. 6. COVERAGE Depending on the
substrate, coverage is approximately 40 square metres per 5 litres on a non
porous, smooth surface. With rougher and more porous surfaces the coverage is
reduced. 7. CLEANING EQUIPMENT When using spray
equipment a thorough rinsing with cold water every hour will prevent a build
up of cured material. Brushes and rollers should be washed with cold water
and detergent and rinsed thoroughly in cold water. 8. PREPARATION Although Waterbased
Epoxy will over coat most other finishes and paints, the best results are
achieved when surfaces are clean and free of other finishes/coatings. All
surfaces should be damp dry or at least not subject to running water.
Particularly attention should be made to degreasing surfaces before
application. All voids and surface imperfections must be carefully filled
especially when using Waterbased Epoxy Clear. (See note Ref 1). 8.1 MIXING The performance of
the coating can be seriously impaired if the following instructions are not
strictly adhered to. Stir the contents of
the larger tin. Pour the entire contents of the smaller container into the
larger container making sure to scrape out as much as possible and mix
thoroughly using a mechanical mixer. When the mix is complete it is advisable
to mix/stir for a further 2-3 minutes to ensure complete dispersion of the 2
components. FAILURE
TO COMPLETELY DISPERSE THE HARDNER WILL RESULT IN A WEAK EMULSION AND
DIFFICULTY IN ADDING THE WATER. |

|
The mix should now
be ready for the addition of fresh clean water at normal room temperature.
The water should be added in 5 increments and each addition must be
thoroughly incorporated prior to any further addition. Addition of water at a
faster rate results in an unstable emulsion. Continue until the
mixture has produced the combined contents of the marked pack size, 1 inch
from the top of the tin. Continue to mix vigorously for a further 3 minutes. The material is now
ready to apply immediately to the prepared areas. NOTE:
- Because the coating is a chemically engineered system with two components
which react, the coating has a pot life duration. The pot life is the time
the applicator has to apply the coating before it becomes unusable. The pot
life for this coating is 1.5 hours at 20 degrees C. Warmer temperatures will
reduce the pot life of the coating. 8.2 APPLICATION WARNING
– DO NOT APPLY IN TEMPERATURES BELOW 10 DEGREES C Once mixed Antel
Waterbased Epoxy Coating should be applied immediately. Application can be by
brush, roller or spray, depending on the situation and extent of the works,
in much the same manner as conventional emulsion paints. Generally a 2 coat
system is adequate for all but the most porous surfaces. In the case of a
very porous substrate, or when the coating is being used as a waterproof
membrane a first priming coat
of Clear Waterbased Epoxy should be used followed by 2 coloured coats. 9. HEALTH & SAFETY Waterbased Epoxy
coating is much safer to handle than other resin systems, however, it is
recommended that all skin contact is avoided and that any areas of contact
are washed immediately with soap and warm water. It is advisable to use a
barrier cream and gloves when applying. FOR
FULL DETAILS PLEASE REFER TO HEALTH & SAFETY DATA SHEET. NOTE
REF 1 Antel
Waterbased Epoxy – Clear With the formulation
of the emulsion the mixture will take on a milky colour. This milkiness will
gradually disappear during the curing cycle provided that the coating is not
too thickly applied nor allowed to fill holes in the surface area of the
application. If either of these situations does occur the milkiness will not
disappear. All voids or surface imperfections must be carefully filled prior
to any application of Clear Waterbased Epoxy. Antel Waterbased
Epoxy is available in a variety of colours. Please enquire for details. |
