Painters Caulk
Technical Data Sheet
1.
DESCRIPTION
Antel
Painters Caulk is an easy to apply waterborne permanent flexible
acrylic emulsion sealant which provides and efficient seal between
materials where slight movement is likely to occur.
It is based on a durable pure acrylic emulsion processed
with a high level of both wet and dry state fungicides making it
suitable for both internal and external decorative sealing.
External use is permissible provided that the weather
conditions are likely to allow the development of a substantial
skin before exposure to rain.
It can be over coated with both alkyd resin and water based
paints.
2.
USES
Typical
interior uses :-
Sealing
gaps around window and door frames.
Sealing
up to skirting boards and covings.
Gives
flexible seals to cracks in plaster.
It
can be over coated with wall coverings as well as over painted,
making it a versatile decorating aid.
Typical
exterior uses :-
Sealing
low to medium movement construction joints between brick,
concrete, timber etc.
Sealing
joints in timber frame constructions
sealant
for perimeter pointing around doors and windows.
It
can be applied to surfaces which are damp and will remain flexible
long after traditional oil based mastics have failed.

APPLICATION
All
surfaces should be dry, clean and free from grease before
application. Wood,
plaster and brick may be damp but not running wet.
Use mechanical abrasion to clean porous surfaces before
application.
For
extra performance in movement situations a primer can be prepared
by diluting one part Antel Painters Caulk with two parts water,
and mixing thoroughly. The
primer should then be brush applied and allowed to dry for two to
three hours before applying the Painters Caulk.
Alternatively Antel P V A Bonding Agent may be used on the
surface.
For
internal cracks in plaster the shoulders of the crack should be
widened to a minimum of 3 - 4 mm to ensure adequate penetration
and performance. For
internal sealing around doors, window frames and skirting boards a
6 mm fillet is recommended. For
external pointing of door and window frames the fillet face should
be a minimum of 12 mm across with a minimum depth of 6 mm of
sealant.
Prepare
the joint by cleaning and priming if necessary.
Cut the nozzle to the desired angle and gun firmly into the
joint to give a good solid fill.
Strike off the sealant flush with the joint sides within
five minutes of application before skinning occurs.
A small amount of shrinkage will occur on curing.
If a flush finish is required fill the joint slightly proud
of the surface to allow for shrinkage.
