Through cure = 7.5 N/mm² 4 - 5 days.
28 day cure = 20 N/mm²
The mixed material should be applied whilst the adhesion promoter and rust inhibitor still have a tacky surface - normally not later than 30 minutes after the application of the Adhesion Promoter.
9. HEALTH & SAFETY
The materials used within the Antel Q-Mix range are generally considered non toxic and harmless, however, common sense dictates that certain basic precautions should be taken.
Q-Mix Mortar repair systems A packs are based on a synthetic emulsion and is therefore ‘sticky’. Contamination on the skin should be washed off immediately using clean water. It is mildly alkaline and splashes in the eye may cause irritation. Should such splashes occur wash out immediately using copious amounts of clean water. Should irritation persist, seek medical attention. B packs (powder packs) are all based on Portland Cement. This is a fine alkaline powder, which can cause sever irritation if in contact with the eyes. If in contact with the eyes wash immediately with clean water. If irritation persists seek medical advice.
10. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
10.1 preparation.
All unsound material must be removed from the area to be repaired. This may be carried out by any of the usual means. E.g. hammer and bolster, point tool, needle gun etc. After such preparation has been completed the repair area should be carefully wire brushed to remove any loose and friable material and present a clean surface suitable for the application of the Q-Mix.
Rusted steel reinforcement should be vigorously wire brushed to remove any loose or flaking material but it is not necessary to return to bright metal. Where rusted reinforcement has been the cause of the concrete failure, the surrounding concrete must be cut back to a point beyond that at which the serious corrosion has occurred, before carrying out the repair.
If the reinforcement corrosion is exceptionally bad, do not proceed with any repairs until a qualified engineer has been consulted.
It is important that surfaces are properly prepared.
10.2 priming
q-mix adhesion promoter and rust inhibitor
The surface of exposed concrete or stone should be damped with water prior to priming with this product. Ensure that no free water remains ad this will merely serve to dilute the material and may detract from its performance.
10.3 mixing.
The mortar may be mixed by hand in a suitable vessel but the preferred method is by use of a forced action mixer.
Whatever mixing method is employed the following rules should be adhered to:-
1. It is usually easier to add the powder pack to the liquid pack gradually.
2. The entire contents of both packs must be used.
3. Nothing else should be added at any stage.
4. Where a mixing machine is being employed it should not be left running once the full mix has been achieved.
5. Mixing should continue until a homogeneous material has been produced.
6. Wash out the mixing vessel and tools with clean water immediately after use.
10.4 application.
The mortar remains usable for at least 30 minutes at normal temperature. Where form work is utilised it should be released using a good quality non emulsified release agent applied according tot he manufacturers instructions, or polythene sheet fixed to it. Formwork should not be struck for at least four days after the repair has been completed.
The mortar should be well compacted into the previously primed cavity and the surface trowelled smooth and level using a clean steel trowel.
Where the full depth of a cavity cannot be filled at one application, the surface of the first application should be scored to produce a mechanical key and a coat of Adhesion Promoter should be applied before subsequent applications be carried out.
